Obin AI Emerges from Stealth to Build the AI Workforce Financial Institutions Can Actually Trust

March 18, 2026
Backed by Motive Partners and AI pioneers Dr. Fei-Fei Li and Lukasz Kaiser, Obin AI is closing the gap between AI potential and regulated deployment — already trusted by firms managing over $1 trillion in assets under management.

Every major financial institution is under the same pressure right now: adopt AI or fall behind. Boards are asking for it. Competitors are claiming it. The technology has never been more capable or more visible.

And yet, most institutions are stuck because they can't afford to be wrong. When a decision involves hundreds of millions of dollars, a complex regulatory framework, and decades of institutional context, "good enough" isn't good enough. The accuracy bar that makes AI useful in a consumer app or a software workflow is simply not the same bar required in a trading desk, an underwriting operation, or a risk monitoring system.

Financial institutions have watched general-purpose AI struggle with edge cases, produce outputs that can't be audited, and require them to hand over proprietary data to closed platforms they don't control.

The result is a growing gap between what the market is selling and what institutions can responsibly deploy.

Closing that gap is exactly what Obin AI was built to do.

Today, we're announcing our seed funding, led by Motive Partners, with participation from angel investors and advisors Dr. Fei-Fei Li and Lukasz Kaiser, two of the most respected figures in foundational AI research globally.

The problem isn't AI. It's the accuracy bar.

Most AI platforms are built for the 80th percentile use case. That's fine for a lot of industries. In financial services, it's a liability.

As Apoorv Saxena, Obin's co-founder and CEO, puts it: "In financial services, you can be 95 percent accurate and still be 100 percent wrong. In a regulated industry managing billions or trillions of dollars, that final margin of error determines whether AI can be trusted."

The difference between impressive demo and production-grade reliability is the gap the entire industry is navigating. Solving it requires architecture built from the ground up for regulated environments: outputs that are auditable and traceable, infrastructure that operates inside a firm's governance boundaries, and the ability to reason across decades of institutional context.

Generic AI platforms weren't designed for that, but Obin AI was.

Built by people who've lived it from both sides

Our founding team brings a rare combination of deep AI research and institutional finance experience. Apoorv Saxena previously served as Head of AI at JPMorgan and was part of the team that built Google Translate, one of Google's first production AI systems at global scale. He has operated at the intersection of cutting-edge AI and enterprise accountability for his entire career.

Co-founder and CTO Dr. Valliappa "Lak" Lakshmanan is a longtime AI architect, former Google and Silver Lake executive, author of seven books on artificial intelligence, and a contributor to foundational applied AI research.

Together, they built Obin AI because they understood from the inside what it would actually take.

Already trusted by institutions managing over $1 trillion in assets

We have spent our time in stealth doing the work that matters most in enterprise AI to get products into production.

We have secured engagements with several of the world's largest financial institutions, with deployments moving from pilot to production in weeks. These institutions, which collectively represent over $1 trillion in assets under management, are using our agents to expand capacity across their core workflows to continuous monitor, scale underwriting, and detect risk early.

E-John Lee, Chief Operating Officer of Pinegrove Venture Partners, describes what that looks like in practice: "Obin AI has successfully bridged the gap from baseline agentic AI outputs to production-grade performance. This has enabled us to confidently replace an existing workflow rather than merely drive incremental efficiencies. They have been true strategic partners to Pinegrove and we highly value their focus on accurate, repeatable results."

What this funding enables

This seed round accelerates two things: expanding deployments with existing clients and bringing our platform to the next tier of global financial institutions that are ready to move from AI pilots to AI operations.

Motive Partners, whose portfolio spans the intersection of financial services and technology, led the round for exactly that reason. "Obin AI is uniquely positioned to operationalize AI in the highest-stakes environments," said Ramin Niroumand, Partner and Head of Venture at Motive Partners.

The institutions that deploy AI responsibly with governance, auditability, and production-grade accuracy will operate faster and more precisely than those that don't. The window to build that advantage is open now.

If you're a financial institution ready to move from AI evaluation to AI deployment, we'd like to talk.
